Holwell Sports Youth 2 - 3 Ibstock United

Holwell have to learn that having lots of possession but not creating many chances won't win a football match. Because for the first 20 minutes Ibstock were on the back foot but when they did attack they made it count.

The home side took the lead on 9 minutes. Ollie Fisher down the right, played the ball inside to Joel Johnson who set up Matt Dawson to net his first goal for the Club, with a low shot inside the far post.

Ibstock equalised minutes later when a long ball down the middle caught Holwell's defence square and the Ibstock forward made no mistake, they took the lead from a pass given away inside the area for the striker to fire in.

After that Sam Robinson superbly turned away an angled drive, then on half-time Andre Fontoura twisted and turned his markers but his shot missed the target.

In the 2nd half Holwell played some neat football but the shots on goal were few.

The visitors showed them how to do it, on the break, the first effort being blocked then scoring the rebound.

Holwell's best chance fell to defender Ryan Smith whose 18 yard volley was well held by the keeper.

Ibstock nearly made it four with a one-on-one but Matt Coutts raced back to get in a last ditch tackle to deny them.

Holwell gained a consolation from the penalty spot in stoppage time; Joel Johnson scoring after Tom Burrows had been fouled

Holwell Sports FC fan and Melton Times sports editor Chris

Harby is aiming to break new ground when he attempts his first

half-marathon next month for two local charities.

Chris will be aiming to drag himself round the 13.1-mile course

when he takes on the Robin Hood Half-Marathon in Nottingham

on Sunday, September 12.

The 36-year-old reformed couch potato has decided to raise

money for the Dove Cottage Hospice, near Stathern, and the

Somerby-based Mount Group Riding for the Disabled with

proceeds to be split 50-50.

Chris has joined the Melton-based Stilton Striders on several runs over the summer and has completed several 10k road races over the past year. But now he faces the next big step-up.

He said: "I had always been rubbish at running at school, but started running regularly about 18 months ago to give myself a new challenge and to get fit.

"Both charities do excellent work, most of which goes unseen by unpaid volunteers. They both rely on fundraising just to survive so I'd like to make as much as possible for them."
