Borrowash Victoria 3 - 2 Holwell Sports
Holwell came away from Borrowash bitterly disappointed not to have got anything out of the game, but having given themselves a mountain to climb it was always going to be a big ask. Not dealing with a cross from the right saw them concede as early as the third minute and a speculative long range effort from the centre circle beat keeper Cragg to make two inside the first ten minutes.
Finally Holwell woke up and grafted their way back into the game when
Graham Keast pulled one back with a quality strike from 25 yards and
when another Keast strike could only be parried by the keeper, Mark
Tinsley followed up but headed over the bar.
After the break the home side went further ahead when Borrowash’s
infamous diver conned the referee into awarding a penalty, but rather than dropping their heads Holwell raised their game and totally dominated the rest of the half.
They pulled another back when Ryan Whatley headed home from a
Keast free kick and were unlucky not to equalise when Leigh Fox hit
the post.
With both teams making all their substitutions, several yellow cards, one
red card and numerous injuries Holwell should have had at least
another 5 minutes to find the equaliser but clearly the Referee had
forgotten to get his Mum any flowers and had to rush off.

Holwell Sports Reserves 6 - 0 Blaby & Whetstone Reserves
Graham Lewin’s side continued their push for the league title, with a fine team performance against Blaby at Welby Road.
Playing in a difficult wind, the first half saw little goalmouth action, with both teams struggling to string passes together. However, the hosts made the breakthrough, making the most of the first chance they were presented with, a great cross from returning skipper Chris Hibbitt found Mike Hendey, who volleyed into the bottom corner of the net.
With the game finely in the balance, Blaby would have gone into the second half, with high expectations, however a superb 20 minute spell in the second period saw Holwell completely kill of their visitors challenge. Another defence splitting ball from Hibbitt, found Mark Cowling who slid in at the far post to double the lead. Minutes later, the game was effectively over at 3-0. Kieran Foster’s cross was not dealt with by the Blaby defence, and Hibbitt had the simplest of tap-ins.
The home side continued to press, looking for more, and they were soon rewarded. A corner was poorly defended and found Cowling way out from goal and his tremendous effort hit both the bar and post, before rebounding out, but Man of the Match Stuart Rose showed predatory instinct to notch his first goal of the season.
Holwell didn’t stop here, and got a 5th through Ian Wells, who picked the ball up on the edge of the box, then beat his man, before unleashing a great finish into the net. The game got even better for the hosts, as Cowling capped off a fine team performance. His miss-hit cross evaded all in the area, before looping over the helpless Blaby keeper.
