Match Report
On first half chances alone, against a Heanor side that didn’t look as strong as previous campaigns, Holwell should have posted their first win of the season.
With players missing Matt Curtis once again had to make changes. Graham Keast and Robbie Aldridge returned in place of Lee Mann and Jamie McKay and the experienced Simon Hill came in for absentee Niall Prenderville. Gavin Williamson made his first League start for the club with Ben Stainsby also unavailable.
Holwell were lightning fast out of blocks and had two good chances inside the first three minutes.
Graham Keast deflected shot looked to be looping into the net but keeper Mark Frost made a finger tip save and from the resulting corner skipper Dave Saddington’s shot was cleared off the line.
They eventually took the lead when Ash Palfreyman’s shot was turned in by Steve Smith.
The visitors had a good shout for a penalty on the half hour when Saddington appear to man handle one of their players in the area.
Palfreyman almost extended the lead after another run through the Heanor defence but Frost made an excellent save with his feet.
Five minutes later and the teams were level. Webster’s corner was palmed onto the bar by Richard Cragg and bounced down into the box where Jay Lee Hodgson reacted quickest to poke the ball home.
In the second half Holwell had a series of free kicks in good positions, and although Hill put in some decent balls they could capitalise.
Williamson’s long throw wasn’t dealt with and Nick Hardy headed over, before Palfreyman once again tested Frost.
Luke Plummer replaced Hill on 80 minutes and was soon involved, quick feet and a snap shot sailed just wide.
Minutes later he played a peach of a ball to Hardy who looked certain to score but his shot was just wide.
An impressive display from Robbie Aldridge earned him the man of the match.
